How to Care for Your Hijabs — Washing & Storage Tips

A well-cared-for hijab lasts longer, keeps its color, and stays soft against your skin. Different fabrics need slightly different care, so here's how to keep your Hijab e Zauq collection looking and feeling its best.

Chiffon

Hand wash in cold water with a mild detergent. Avoid wringing — gently squeeze out excess water instead, and lay flat to dry. Chiffon can snag easily, so store it away from rough fabrics or sharp jewelry.

Georgette

Machine washable on a gentle cycle with cold water, but hand washing is gentler on the fabric long-term. Air dry away from direct sunlight to prevent fading. A cool iron on the reverse side helps smooth out any creases.

Silk

Silk needs the most care. Hand wash only, in cold water with a silk-safe or mild detergent — never wring or twist. Dry flat in shade, away from direct heat or sunlight, which can weaken the fibers over time. Store silk hijabs folded, not hung, to avoid stretching.

Cotton

The most low-maintenance of the four. Machine washable in cold or lukewarm water. Tumble dry on low or air dry — cotton holds up well either way. A warm iron works fine if needed.

General Storage Tips

  • Fold hijabs rather than hanging them to avoid stretching, especially for chiffon and silk
  • Store in a drawer or fabric organizer away from direct sunlight to prevent color fading
  • Keep pins, brooches, and magnets stored separately to avoid snagging delicate fabrics
  • Avoid storing damp — always let hijabs fully dry before folding away

Taking a few extra minutes with proper care goes a long way in keeping your hijabs looking as good as the day they arrived.
